I remember him fondly. Please extend my congratulations to Allen for his long and valuable service to the Plymouth arts community.
I extend my very best wishes to Allen and everyone at the Cinema.

Comment on Film Review: The Quiet Girl – “crafted with so much love and care it’s almost palpable.” by Tom B. https://plymouthartscinema.org/film-review-the-quiet-girl-crafted-with-so-much-love-and-care-its-almost-palpable/#comment-17850 Tue, 22 Aug 2023 14:06:53 +0000 https://plymouthartscinema.org/?p=7084#comment-17850 I’ve seen “The Quiet Girl” several times at the cinema, and one of the reasons for my desire to see this film again and again, apart from the superlative performances of the main trio of actors–Carrie Crowley, Andrew Bennett, and the wonderful Catherine Clinch–and the beauty of the visuals, is the sense of homesickness the story leaves me with. It’s just a marvellous experience to sit in the dark of the movie theatre and immerse oneself in the world of the Kinsellas home and dairy farm, the trees lining the laneway, the enchanted grove around the well, and even the humble day-to-day chores in the kitchen. Who wouldn’t want to live in that world?

Comment on Bernard Samuels, Director of Plymouth Arts Centre 1971-96 by Glynn Warren https://plymouthartscinema.org/bernard-samuels-director-of-plymouth-arts-centre-1971-96/#comment-11509 Thu, 09 Jun 2022 16:59:26 +0000 https://plymouthartscinema.org/?p=6977#comment-11509 So sorry to hear about Bernard Samuels passing. I remember very well the encouragement he (and assistant Sandy and Film Tutor Paul Shrian and Mary of course) gave members of the Film Group when I first started attending the Plymouth Arts Centre at 38 Looe Street back in 1973 (at age 14). I recognise several faces (Bernard, Colin and Douglas) from the 1988 picture. It is great that the cinema goes from strength to strength at the new location. I do miss the variety and history of the old place though. Thank you Bernard for the Art and Artists you introduced me too.
