Dir. Carol Morley, UK, 2023, 108 mins. Cast. Monica Dolan, Kelly Macdonald, Gina McKee.Director Carol Morley will be joining us for an introduction and Q&A for the screening on Friday November 17th. Read Carol Morley's letter to the audience."Sanity and madness have played on my mind almost my entire life. But when I tell stories I desire to bring something more than darkness - I want to bring humour, kindness, connection, hope and light: the possibility of something to make us all carry on." Carol MorleyFrom acclaimed British filmmaker Carol Morley, this dark and funny exploration of the growing friendship between two women as they hit the road is filled with adventure, humour and compassion. The film puts forgotten artist Audrey Amiss on the map. Inspired by her extensive archive of diaries, letters and art, the film weaves real events into an imagined journey as Audrey goes on a road trip with her psychiatric nurse. Deciding that she must have an exhibition of her art before it is too late, Amiss persuades her nurse, Sandra, to drive her from London to a gallery in her birthplace in Sunderland. Opting to not take the motorway, the two decide to take the long way round - trundling in Sandra's electric car on B-roads to their destination. But with so many deviations along the way, will they ever even make it?For detailed information about the film's age rating and content notices, you can visit the BBFC website and search the film title, then scroll down to the “Content Advice” section: www.bbfc.co.uk

Dir. Martin Scorsese, US, 2023, 206 mins. Cast. Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Lily Gladstone.Director Martin Scorsese returns with another epic tale from American history about the horrific murdering of members of the Osage tribe. Based on the best-selling book of the same name by David Grann, the film depicts the true story of the Osage Native American nation who became incredibly wealthy in the 1920s thanks to their reservation sitting on land rich with oil. This attracts the attention of the white population, who will stop at nothing – including murder – to get what they think is their 'fair share'.Scorsese tells this horrifying development through the eyes of the improbable romance between Osage Mollie Kyle and white Ernest Burkhart, where their love for each other leads them down a path of unspeakable betrayal...For detailed information about the film's age rating and content notices, you can visit the BBFC website and search the film title, then scroll down to the “Content Advice” section: www.bbfc.co.uk

Dir. Ali Ray, 90 mins, 2023.The Kiss by Gustav Klimt is one of the most recognised and reproduced paintings in the world. It is perhaps the most popular poster on student dorm walls from Beijing to Boston.Painted in Vienna around 1908, the evocative image of an unknown embracing couple has captivated viewers with its mystery, sensuality and dazzling materials ever since it was created. But just what lies behind the appeal of the painting – and just who was the artist that created it?Delving into the details of real gold, decorative designs, symbolism and simmering erotica, a close study of the painting takes us to the remarkable turn of the century Vienna when a new world was battling with the old.Klimt was a titan of the Art Nouveau movement, creating decadent new worlds which merged tender sensuality, ancient mythology and radical modernity.Discover the scandalous life and the rich tapestry of extraordinary influences behind one of the world’s favourite paintings. From the director of ‘Frida Kahlo’ and ‘Mary Cassatt – Painting the Modern Woman’ comes a powerful, gripping and passionate new film.

Dir. D.Smith, US, 2023, 73 mins. With. Daniella Carter, Koko Da Doll, Liyah Mitchell.Directed by two-time Grammy nominee D. Smith, Kokomo City takes up a seemingly simple mantle — to present the stories of four Black transgender sex workers in New York and Georgia. Shot in striking black and white, the boldness of the facts of these women’s lives and the earthshaking frankness they share complicate this enterprise, colliding the everyday with cutting social commentary and the excavation of long-dormant truths.Accessible for any audience, unfiltered, unabashed, and unapologetic, Smith and her subjects smash the trendy standard for authenticity, offering a refreshing rawness and vulnerability unconcerned with purity and politeness. A must-see.For detailed information about the film's age rating and potential triggering contents, you can visit the BBFC website and search the film title, then scroll down to the “Content Advice” section: www.bbfc.co.uk

Everyone is welcome to Relaxed screenings, but we have made them especially suitable to those with Dementia, Autism, and anyone who finds standard screenings overwhelming:The house lights are left on low and the sound turned down a little. There are no pre-feature adverts or trailers and the film starts at the time advertised.Maximum capacity in the cinema will be reduced to 50% (50 people). All tickets are £4. You can book in advance online or from our Box Office. Or you can buy your ticket from the Box Office on the day of the screening.Seating is allocated on our booking system, which means if you book in advance, you will be asked to select a seat. But if on the day you would like to sit somewhere else, talk to a member of the team, and we will do our best to transfer your ticket to another available seat. During the screening, you can also move around, stretch your legs, and change seats, but we ask you to be mindful of other people’s personal space. For safety reasons, please note that running isn’t allowed in the cinema.Information to help you choose your seat: air circulation in the cinema is feeding from each side of the auditorium. It should feel cooler near the aisles on the front rows, warmer at the back. You can take your own soft drinks and snacks into the cinema. You can also buy drinks and snacks from our Box Office and take them in with you in the cinema. Click HERE to view the current menu. You are welcome to bring personal items such as blankets, ear defenders, that will help you enjoy the film but do not disrupt other people’s cinematic experience. To prepare your visit, you can take a virtual tour of our venue on Arts University Plymouth’s website here. Click on the pin marked “Tavistock Place” to start a tour from the main entrance, or click on the pin marked “Plymouth Arts Cinema” for a 360-degree view of our auditorium. Or feel free to pop in during our opening hours (Tuesday, Thursday and Friday: 5-8.30pm; Wednesday: 1-8.30pm; Saturday: 1-8pm): a member of our team will be happy to give you a tour of our spaces, including the cinema if it is not in use. This screening is also CAPTIONED: subtitles will display the dialogue as well as additional auditory information on the screen. For more information, visit our dedicated access page.Dir. Kelly Fremon Craig, US, 2023, 106 mins. Cast. Rachel McAdams, Abby Ryder Fortson, Kathy Bates, Benny Safdie.Based on the best-selling book by Judy Blume, 11-year-old Margaret is uprooted from her life in New York City for the suburbs of New Jersey, and contemplates everything about life, friendship, and adolescence. She relies on her mother, Barbara, who is also struggling to adjust to life outside the big city, and her adoring grandmother, Sylvia, who isn’t happy they moved away. A compelling, big-hearted, frank and funny adaptation of one of Blume’s most successful (and most often banned) books that should appeal to both newcomers to her work and nostalgic readers alike. For detailed information about the film's age rating and potential triggering contents, you can visit the BBFC website and search the film title, then scroll down to the “ratings info” section: www.bbfc.co.uk
